Chuck - The Race - 139:15 (7:35)
While Bob's run was far more unbelievable, I was very satisified with my effort this morning. The most beatiful day for a run. I'm assuming it was in the low 50's with only the slightest amount of wind barely detectable.
The goal was to run 1:40 - 1:50, i.e..; 7:40 to 8:00 miles. According to my GPS (which I quickly realized was slightly off all day), I began at a 7:30 clip. I had slowed to a 7:35 overall pace when we reached Union College on 48th street. The ensuing downhill to the 10K allowed me to get that number back down to 7:30. At some point I realized that I was able to keep this pace and could see getting under 1:40. The clincher was when I ran up one of the two hills nears the end of the race, keeping my pace at 7:29, then realized that I had in fact climbed the larger, latter hill already. I realized that I could run the final mile in less than 8:00 and still make 1:40. However, near the end I realized that I actually had more juice than everybody else and was able to lower my GPS time to 7:23. This, in fact, turned out to be 7:35. Will have to write to Timex about that one.
