Chuck - The Race - 139:15 (7:35)

While Bob's run was far more unbelievable, I was very satisified with my effort this morning. The most beatiful day for a run. I'm assuming it was in the low 50's with only the slightest amount of wind barely detectable.

The goal was to run 1:40 - 1:50, i.e..; 7:40 to 8:00 miles. According to my GPS (which I quickly realized was slightly off all day), I began at a 7:30 clip. I had slowed to a 7:35 overall pace when we reached Union College on 48th street. The ensuing downhill to the 10K allowed me to get that number back down to 7:30. At some point I realized that I was able to keep this pace and could see getting under 1:40. The clincher was when I ran up one of the two hills nears the end of the race, keeping my pace at 7:29, then realized that I had in fact climbed the larger, latter hill already. I realized that I could run the final mile in less than 8:00 and still make 1:40. However, near the end I realized that I actually had more juice than everybody else and was able to lower my GPS time to 7:23. This, in fact, turned out to be 7:35. Will have to write to Timex about that one.

Bob - The Race - 1:45:59 (8:01)

Woke up feeling a little worse than the day before - definately getting a cold. Popped some Alka Seltzer cold medicine, ate some pancakes, picked up Dad and drove to Lincoln.

Perfect weather - 49 degrees at the start, and no wind the entire race. Started at a comfy, but fast clip at 8:04 the first few miles. Dropped to 8:11 pace after the hill at mile 3, but worked it back down on the way to the running trail. After reaching the top of the hill at mile 9, and still at 8:09 pace, I knew I was on a PR pace. Ended up running the last 4 miles with another runner who was running the same pace I was, which helped push me a little. Finished at 8:01, or 1:45:59. Hopefully the chip time agrees with my GPS time.

Felt pretty exhausted after the race, I think I was on the edge of hitting a wall towards the end.

My previous PR was 1:46:14.

That's it for me and the ol' blog....

UPDATE - My official chip time is 1:46:01.

Chuck - 4.0 / ?

Took a nice jog down the Wabash Trace from Lewis Central to old Hwy 275. Since I was at a track meet, I ran in my khaki shorts which was kind of odd. Please do not let the Omaha Running Club find out as I would be summarily dismissed from the marathon clinic if they knew I was not in proper attire.

Bob - 5K/7:33

Woke up with a sore throat this morning, and felt generally tired all day. What the hell kind of timing is that???? Still went for a short run after work, and forced myself to run it at a fast pace. Was hoping it would have felt easier, though.

That's it for Lincoln training. Eating carbs and drinking water are my job for the next couple of days. Looks like perfect weather on Sunday. If I'm catching a cold, hopefully it holds off.

Chuck - 4.0 / 6:57

Scraped myself together for a run before my first marathon training clinic. Ran along the Keystone so it was flat. I tried to pick it up as I went. Was at 7:14 after a mile, 7:08 after two miles, and 7:02 after three miles.

Bob - 5.0/8:47

Perfect weather this morning - 50 and clear, no wind. Decided to go slow and easy to nurse my sore hamstring. Why is my left hamstring sore? I'm embarrased to say.....from bowling on Sunday. It's true.

I'm going to do lots of stretching in the next 5 days, plus a short run on Thursday.

Bob - 8.4/8:15

Crappy conditions - rainy, windy, and cool. Overall a very good run for me, though.

2 short runs left before the big dance on Sunday.

Chuck - 9.0 / 1:12:00

Terrible, rainy, gloomy weekend. I had to go the treadmill for the first time in a long while. I scraped out 9 miles at 8:00 pace. I'm sinking fast.

Bob - 5.0/7:57

Really nice run in light rain. Felt a lot of spring in my step.
